The church members along with the majority of the pastors and deaconesses within the Laguna District attended the Heart Warming Experience Serminar held at the Pacita UMC in San Pedro, Laguna last November 13 – 15, 2015. It is the 3rd Encounter God Retreat Seminar now held with the church members of the Laguna District facilitated by the conference superintendent Rev. Francis Pera.
The first EGR was held for the church workers of STPPACE also held in Pacita UMC and the second was held in Atimonan UMC to cater to the church members in the Quezon District which was held last October 29 – 31, 2015. This time young and old members in Laguna District came to taste God’s presence through Bible study, sharing of faith stories praying and praising God. This is a new opportunity for church members to know more of God along with other members of local churches which serves also as moment of fellowship and camaraderie within the district.
Heart Warming Experience is coined after the spiritual renewal experience of the Methodism founder John Wesley when he experience his heart strangely warmed when realized a truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ as he attended a prayer meeting in the now familiar Aldersgate street where he recorded in his journal. A momentous event of Wesley’s life and has become a call and challenge for every person to experience as life changing event and essential part of Methodism.
EGR is an event which captures John Wesley’s heart warming experience and launches every church member to life of accountable discipleship through small group ministries called CARE group. Every member is expected to be a member of a care group in their own respective local churches where they can grow their devotional life through journal writing where a material is available at the bishop’s office. The care group system is a venue not just for discipleship but also for evangelism where they can invite other people to life of commitment and faithful discipleship to Christ. This is the design of the United Methodist Church – Disciple of Christ a discipleship program of the Manila Episcopal Area of the United Methodist Church under the leadership of Bishop Rudy Juan.
