Early in the morning church members including the church of Southern Tagalog Provisional Conference of the United Methodist Church gather for the celebration of one of the most important date in the Christian year which is Jesus’ resurrection mostly called as Easter.
Local churches in Laguna and in Quezon have its own way of celebration of the Lord’s resurrection where sometimes early worship services we’re held outside their sanctuaries and gathers at an open field like Sta. Cruz UMC held it by the lake. There are times churches like in Quezon Province which are in far flung areas held worship services on high places like mountain or by the hill top. Some held it near the sea or resort where they can conduct baptism services for new converts. Some churches attend early morning worship services with other Christian churches like being done in Manila where the National Council of Churches in the Philippines held its service in Quezon City. And others held their services in their own local churches but Atimonan UMC held its service in its covered grounds. And after the service a “boodle fight” type of community breakfast was held.
Traditional activities like Easter egg hunting we’re still done among the churches especially made for children. Most people are fond of painting hard boiled eggs and hid them in difficult to find places and sometimes reward people who can find the most of the eggs.
But the most important thing in the celebration of Easter is the message of new life that can be found in Christ through his death and resurrection. Amid uncertainties and life’s surprises one can find assurance of life and hope in Christ as Rev. Nazzer Oliveros told his congregation in Atimonan and challenges to face life with courage and faith with promise of peace and justice.
