The reelected Bishop Rodolfo Juan presided over the 5th session of the Southern Tagalog Philippines Provisional Annual Conference and all of the annual conference under the Manila Episcopal Area this 2013. Bishop Juan was the former bishop of the Baguio Episcopal Area of the United Methodist Church and served a quadrennium (4 year term). When he was re-elected he choose Manila Area as his episcopal area. The 5th session was held at Sta. Rosa United Methodist Church at Sta. Rosa City of the Laguna province last March 18 – 19, 2013.
Bishop Juan is the new bishop for the Southern Tagalog Conference and he challenges the Conference of continuing the ministry under the basics of Methodist and Wesleyan 5 ideals on his message during the opening worship of the conference session.
Election of officers and members of the boards, councils, commissions and committees was held for the new quadrennium. Julie Capulong (Jesus Reigns UMC) was re-elected as conference lay leader who gave the laity address and stresses leadership development among the laity and partnership with the clergy. Marilyn Santos (Pacita UMC) was elected as conference treasurer, Zenaida Ablao (Sta. Rosa UMC) as the new CFA chair and Donaldo Ducot (Biñan UMC) as auditor. The deaconess Rosalie Diaz of Alabat UMC was elected as the new conference secretary with Pastor Cristobal Pera (Pinagbayanan UMC) and Pastor Vincent Pacto (Lopez Mission) was elected associate secretaries.
The Conference has recognized the organization of new local church which is the Galilee United Methodist Church the former Capaluhan mission located at Brgy. Capaluhan, Calauag, Quezon whose pastor is Pastor Federico Quinit Jr.. Pastor Quinit is also the pastor of Kalinangan UMC (Calauag, Quezon). The new local church has 25 families with a proposed annual budget of P 80, 000. It is situated in rural area of Calauag, Quezon.
The Bayan ni Hesus – Pamayanang Katutubo the Indigenous Community Ministries of the annual conference board of Church and Society made its maiden report of its activities in ministry with the Dumagats in General Nakar and with Aetas in Calauag, Quezon. The ministry was a recipient of the Ethnic Local Church Grant of the General Board of Church and Society of the United Methodist Church.
Bishop Juan also had appointed new district superintendent of Laguna District in the person of Rev. Dexter Ceballos. Rev. Joel Capulong the incumbent DS decided to resign but will continue serving as a pastor.
