UVLight water purifier for the evacuees in Sta. Cruz, Laguna


Through the UMCOR Philippines, Global Medic who also provides aqua tabs to disinfect water during disasters gave a Ultra Violet Light water purifier to the communities affected by severe flooding in Sta. Cruz, Laguna.

Steve the team leader with two other Canadian – Eric and Sandy also accompanied by Mark also member of the Global Medic came in Sta Cruz, Laguna with UMCOR Phils head Ciony Eduarte. The team was assited by Sta Cruz UMC pastor – Rev. Nathaniel Francisco and Rev. DS Joel Capulong of Laguna District. They talked to the municpal mayor and presented their project for the evacuees.

The unit was installed in one of the evacuation center in P. Guevarra Memorial School which holds about 1000 persons or less than 300 families who were affected by the severe flooding. The purification unit uses Ultra Violet light in order to disinfect bacteria on water. It also has carbon and sedimentary filters.

The plan was to distribute free purified water among the evacuation centers in the town and even to the whole community.

the severe flooding was caused by heavy monsoon rains also worsen by typhoon Gener even it didn’t entered the Philippine area of responsibility.
