STPPACE organize a training seminar on Disaster Management through UMCoR Phils.

"Capacity Building in times of Disaster" Prof. Lito Manalili as resource person

The United Methodist Committee on Relief, the denomination’s agency on relief and disaster response/management, Philippines’ office coordinated with the STPPACE to conduct a 3 day Training Seminar on Disaster Management and Risk Reduction last January 13 – 17, 2011 at UMCoR Office at the Union Theological Seminary, Dasmarinas, Cavite.

It aims to provide disaster awareness, management and focus on risk reduction a preparedness program for the churches in times of disaster. The Philippines especially the Southern Tagalog Region is in the hot spot of disaster made like earthquake and flash flood like what had happen last May of 2009 during the typhoon “Ondoy”. The Province of Laguna were hit by the typhoon putting the downtown of Sta. Cruz, Laguna’s capital, and almost all towns of Laguna surrounding the Lake into intense flooding.

UMCoR Philippines led by Ciony Eduarte also helped the communities in Laguna and provided relief goods at Sta. Cruz and also in the town of Binan. Some churches, organizations also helped giving relief goods to the families affected flooding.

Some of the topics in the seminar were Disaster Psychology, Capacity building in times of Disaster and Risk reduction management.

The Seminar were attended by pastors and laity of the STPPACE from Laguna District and also of Quezon District.
